Elisabeth Marriner, MSc
Elisabeth Marriner
Psychosexual & Couple Psychodynamic Psychotherapist

Elisabeth works with utmost care and sensitivity. The pace of the work is tailored to the particular needs of the individual or couple. She specialises in helping individuals and couples find ways to rebuild trust, restore intimacy and communicate more effectively. She is also widely experienced in addressing difficulties with sex and sexuality, the most private aspect of our lives. Her experience includes working with individuals and couples who encounter erectile and ejaculation problems, difficulty achieving orgasm, painful sex, low libido or a deterioration in a couple’s sexual relationship.

Elisabeth completed her couple therapy training at Tavistock Relationships (formerly Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships) in 2012 after having worked as an individual psychodynamic psychotherapist in her private practice in West London since 2003. Her initial training for this was at Westminster Pastoral Foundation (WPF Kensington). In 2019, she gained an MSc in Psychosexual Individual and Couple Therapy from Tavistock Relationships.

From 2012, Elisabeth was a visiting clinician at Tavistock Relationships, then in 2019, she was one of TR’s specialist team of psychosexual therapists, working with individuals and couples. She was also a visiting clinician and assessor at WPF Kensington for many years while co-running a youth counselling service funded by WPF and RBK&C (Chelsea Bus Stop). This led to work as a counsellor at a London secondary school and a women’s refugee organisation.

Elisabeth has a particular interest in people struggling with family or parenting issues, as well as couples facing life transitions, whether preparing for a permanent commitment or other significant life transition periods, such as life with a new baby or managing family dynamics with older teenage children. Over the years, she has worked with people between the ages of 18 and 85, from all walks of life, cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and sexualities, with a wide range of difficulties.

Elisabeth is an accredited member of the following professional organisations: the Foundation for Psychotherapy and Counselling (FPC), the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapy (COSRT).

In her previous career in primary education in London, Elisabeth worked with young children (3 to 11) with Special Needs. This experience continues to inform and enrich her work today.

Elisabeth never underestimates what it takes to make that crucial first step in asking for professional help, particularly for individuals or couples with a sexual difficulty. She is welcoming, warm, genuinely curious and engaging when talking about sex.
